To bigger and better things in the Habs blogosphere

For time being, this will be the last post at Ya! The Habs Rule!

By now, most of you know that I am taking the managerial reigns of the Habs juggernaut blog HabsEyesOnThePrize.com

I was thrilled when Robert Lefebvre offered me the position earlier this summer, and had been contributing to EOTP whenever I could since the spring. After some debating I decided to take on the challenge.

To be honest Robert’s site was what inspired me to kick off my own, and in that time I have had some great experiences both online and in the field. I never thought that in a matter of months after I started that I’d find myself interviewing the likes of Kirk Muller, Brett Hull, Wayne Gretzky or Guy Lafleur! It has truly been a rewarding and memorable experience, that I plan to continue.

In the process, Robert and I found a mutual respect for each others work, over the past couple seasons, and with Robert moving on to bigger things of his own, it seemed the natural thing to do.

In the mean time, I will keep this site up for anyone wishing to do any Habs research. SB Nation has offered to archive the site into  EOTP, but I will likely just refer, and eventually carry over any articles of significance.

I’d like to thank all the supporters of this site, and look forward to seeing you all at EOTP!!

Calling on Habs fans and friends to lend a helping hand

Well Ya!The Habs Rule! is unofficially a year old (This site first popped up sans domain name last April) and over the months it’s grown in popularity and I’ve made some great friends and contacts over that span.

You will now notice that I am adding some pages across the upper navigation bar. These will gradually be filled over the coming months as time allows.

The one page that is up and running is the CHARITIES page. I’ve already added some links to some popular charities, amongst the Canadiens organization, along with some others that I am personally involved in.

As the world’s financial situation is in one of it’s most unstable moments in history, times can be tough for many to lend a helping hand. But if you can, donating to any of these events or organizations is greatly appreciated.

Don’t forget, you can always donate your time to some of these as well as other organizations. If you have another one to suggest, please send me an email.

I want to pass on another great organization that came to my attention today.

The MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Foundation is holding it’s third annual golf tournament on June 2 at Le Club Laval-sur-le-lac.

The Foundation’s goal is to continue to fund excellent rehabilitation services and programs offered at the MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre that are not presently covered by Government grants. The Centre's programs and services enable and empower clients of all ages with vision and hearing impairments, and to children and youths with motor, communication, vision and hearing impairments.

CJAD’s “Voice of the Habs” Rick Moffat is this year’s Honourary Chairman. It could be a bitter-sweet moment for Rick as a continued Habs playoff run means he may not make it. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to miss it.

Montreal Canadiens Holiday Goodies: 2009 edition

OK time to share all the cool Habs swag that I got under the tree this Christmas.

Off the top is the awesome CCM/Vintage Collection Maurice Richard jersey.

The jersey is patterned after the 1955 model, and has the captain’s “C” and fighting strap.

The story to it is that I came across it, at a Play-it-Again Sports in Brampton, a couple weeks before Christmas.

It was on sale at the time but I resisted temptation to grab it.

About a week before Christmas, my fiancée was out shopping, for yours truly, and sent me a text that she was having difficulty finding me something.

I humorously suggested the jersey, but did not expect to find it under the tree. She was actually looking at a Patrick Roy jersey when I mentioned it, did the price comparison and went with my suggestion.

Nor did I expect the autographed Guy Lafleur puck and card (to the right of the ice bucket). When I first unwrapped it, I totally missed the fact that it was signed until she mentioned the certificate of authenticity.

Rounding out the gift stash are some Habs PJ’s an Canadiens license plate and seatbelt cover, the ice bucket set, beer stein and a car-coin bank. I think I’ll use the coin bank to save for season tickets.

Obviously I wasn’t the only one to get a Habs jersey this season. Robert at HabsEyesOnThePrize picked up his during the Boxing Day sales and wrote about his unique experience.

Not a big surprise to Habs fans but a recent Ipsos-Reid poll lists the Montreal Canadiens as “Canada’s Team”.
