Markov out up to four months: This can’t be good

RDS is reporting that Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov could be out up to four months.

Markov needed surgery to repair tendon damage suffered when his ankle was cut by the skate blade of goalie Carey Price in Thursday’s season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Reports earlier in the morning thought that the Habs blueliner would be out for two to three months.

Markov suffered a knee injury in Toronto last season as well and missed the remaining regular season games and the playoffs.

More details are to come as the team arrives in Buffalo for a Saturday game against the Sabres.

The Canadiens are 6-19-2 without Markov in the lineup since the lockout.

With their all-star defender out, it can be expected that Yannick Weber will likely be called up from Hamilton.
